How to set up Xbox Cloud Gaming
Xbox Cloud Gaming is the simplest cloud setup of any service. If you have Game Pass Ultimate, you already have it — just open xbox.com/play in a browser and pick a game.
Steps
- 01
Get Game Pass Ultimate
Cloud streaming is bundled into Ultimate, currently $16.99/mo. PC Game Pass with the Cloud add-on works too but loses console access.
- 02
Open xbox.com/play
No client install needed. Sign in with your Microsoft account. The catalog and 'Play' button appear instantly.
- 03
Pair a controller
Xbox Wireless controllers pair via Bluetooth. PS5 DualSense and most Bluetooth gamepads also work, with rebinding via the in-stream menu.
- 04
Add to your home screen (mobile)
On iOS or Android, use Safari/Chrome's 'Add to Home Screen' option. The PWA opens full-screen and behaves like a native app.
- 05
Enable touch controls if needed
Around 250 games support a touch overlay on phones — useful when you don't have a controller handy.
Common problems
Can't sign in / 'something went wrong'
Cookies are usually the culprit. Clear cookies for xbox.com or try a private window. Microsoft account 2FA tokens occasionally desync.
Stream is blurry on launch and never sharpens
First few seconds are intentionally low-bitrate to start fast. If it stays soft after 10s, your network is bandwidth-constrained — try a wired connection.
Controller works on console but not in cloud
The browser needs Bluetooth gamepad permission. In Chrome/Edge, look for a small gamepad icon in the address bar after pressing a button on the controller.
